2013 – The Year of Improvement
Category Archives: Uncategorized
Amazing that we've been here a full year. Like last year, we celebrated with our own personal firework show. Beats the pants off of being stuck in traffic! (Mackenzie was in Florida with my mom this year.. more on that in another post.) We started our day at Jen and Flip's house.. got a little quiet swim in..had some good food and then headed home for the fireworks! On Sunday, Cassie's friend Paige came over for a playdate.. sounds like both of them had been talking about getting together all week long. Nice to know that they weren't disappointed in the actual event!
Of course this happens when Steve heads out of town. Neither of us like to have things happen on "our watch". Cassie walks into my office and asks for a pair of scissors so that she can do a craft. Considering she's never done anything "bad" with scissors before, I told her where to find the craft scissors (you know, the blunt ones that can't cut butter much less paper??). Mackenzie comes running to me 10 minutes later to tell me that "CASSIE CUT HER HAIR!!!". Sigh…. here's the result of her work: Luckily, Penny was able to fit us in for an emergency repair job the next day. At least we have a few weeks before school starts for it to grow out! Actually, it's very cute and we just call it her "summer cut"!
We had a fantastic visit with Betsy, Brian and Shelby this week. They were doing their every other year tour of the South in their RV (in-between years, they head North) and honored us with a visit. Last time they were here, we literally had just moved down. They found the surroundings to be a bit more settled in this year – at least I hope so! We've been wanting to take the girls gem mining and decided that this was the perfect opportunity to do it. We gave them the option of Emerald Pointe (not gems, but a water park) or Hiddenite, NCand surprisingly, they all wanted to go mining! We headed out pretty early with some sage advice from miners before us… expect to get dirty, pack a lunch and take extra clothes. Check. We opted to do all three activities..digging, creeking and sluicing. The next time we … read more
Or, three rather… One evening, Steve and I decided that a really GREAT!! end of school year gift for the girls would be to get them all their own sets of golf clubs. So, being the savvy shopper that I am, I set out to find clubs for them all while not breaking the bank "just in case" their interest was nil. So far, they seem to like them and Mackenzie and Sydney have already been treated to a day at the driving range. I just realized, that somehow Sydney got away before I got her picture…
Sherwood has a cute program that they do for all rising Kindergarteners called KinderCamp. It gives them the opportunity to get used to their teachers, their classrooms and their new friends. Cassie had a great time and can't wait to hit the books again tomorrow! As we suspected, she is the smallest in the group. Luckily, what she lacks in size, she makes up for with her might! This year's "theme" was Teddy Bear Camp..hence all the kids with their teddy bears.
