This is the #iPPP of the week that makes me a little sad:
I’m not sure how this happened. I swear it was just last year that we were in PA getting her ready for half day kindergarten at Mill Creek Elementary.
It was such a foreign world to us. Far removed from the gluesticks and construction paper of preschool. The 5th graders looked so big and like they could eat the kindergartners up. The school overwhelmed us with it’s endless hallways and lockers. Moving to middle school and those giant 5th graders had turned into rabid 8th grade dogs. Social issues smacked us in the face like never before. We watched our first failing grade come in. And then another one. We celebrated successes and a love for art. We danced at our first dance.
Now, we’re getting ready for another first. Another unknown world. High School.
And again – I’m not ready.
Because I know that this is truly the last frontier of our lives where she lives together 24/7. Even when she goes to college, it won’t be the same as right now.
So as I get ready to go thru and help her pick classes for her Freshman year of high school, I hold on to this picture back when it all started. I’ll take Mill Creek’s intimidating first day of Kindergarten all over again.

I feel ya…my advice is to take lots of pictures, so many she’ll think you’re obnoxious, because it all goes by so very quickly. My girlie graduated from high school approximately 10 minutes ago (all 4 years took maybe a week and a half) and is already 3/4 of the way through her junior year of college. She’ll turn 21 and officially completely legal about two weeks after finals. It’s crazy.

I know!! Elementary school seemed to drag on forever, but then again it WAS 6 years long. Middle school at 3 years was the blink of an eye.

I so get this. Even though I have one son in elementary school and one yet to start, I feel as though I have blinked and we are here. How does it happen?

I was always so good at not wishing phases away… I’m grateful that I didn’t because good lord, how much quicker would the time have passed. Of course… pair my sentiment with my aggravation at teenage angst and you’ve got a crazy, emotional cocktail!

Oh, goodness. I just got heart palpitations reading that, and my oldest is in first grade. Because all of that about being swallowed up by the older kids and the long hallways is my reality right now, and I don’t want to think about where you’re at! Eeep. BUT, that picture is just gorgeous (or your daughter, of course). I bet she’s stunning now.

It’s a flurry of activity yet I can remember every first school day for each of them more vividly than the day of their birth. And I probably shouldn’t tell you that once you get to middle school, the opportunities to volunteer shrink to almost nothing. No more homeroom moms

Rumor has it that middle school is definitely the worst of them all. Knock on wood it’s been okay for #2, but I can’t wait to get #1 out of there and pray that HS is better.
What a cutie. Love that hair. My oldest started college last fall. Very weird. But honestly, I liked high school a lot more than when we was at the middle school. Good luck.

2 redheads in the house make for good times. I hear you on the middle school thing. It’s been brutal for us as it relates to her. Every year, something else. The middle one? Not a problem so far. Bizarre how it can be so different for each one.
OH MY! I just posted about this. Although, I was a bit more obsessive and a bit less reflective. Last year, I was teary when my oldest was headed to high school, but this year with the youngest, I CAN’T WAIT to leave Junior High behind. Perhaps it’s because my oldest is having such a successful first year of high school. I can only hope for a repeat!
Warning: High school is HECTIC! I think it’s like that last month of pregnancy that’s so miserable you look forward to the pain of childbirth. You are so sleep-deprived from hauling kids that you kinda forget that they are leaving soon.

Oh you did!! Just left you a comment but I’m sure I screwed something up during this process. I always do. In the 4th grade, it was not knowing that failing EOGs could equal being held back. In the 7th, it was the EOGs determined your course load for high school. Sigh. At least only 1 of them suffers from our ignorance, right?
I’m crying right now. I prefer being in denial that my kids will grow up and that we won’t always live together. Aaack! High school? Oy! Please keep writing so I know that you live through it! Wonderful post!

I’m sure that I will since it’s foreign territory to me. Not to mention the fact that getting information out of her is not too easy. I’ve definitely entered the “shunned” stage 
I’m in the same place you are! TechSupport just selected his courses for high school. He is so much more driven than I was; it astounds me. I just drifted along. But he is determined. I’m like: CAD? WHat the hell is CAD? He’s all: “Mom, I can get 3 college credits if I take that. It will be easy, and I’ll love it.” He tells me not to worry. And I’m not. I just can’t believe we are here already.

oh wow! high school. That’s huge. That’s really really huge. You’ve got me thinking because my oldest IS in Kindergarten this year. The first six years of life have passed so quickly for him and us! Man, but it’s exciting to think of all that school stuff that awaits him
Oh and btw, I’m sure she gets this a lot–but that is the most gorgeous head of hair I’ve seen. Look at the beauty and energy in that photo! Love.

I’ll say this – I’m looking forward to getting away from the middle school drama.
Oh…I know that feeling. I just signed the enrollment sheet for Thing Two’s first year of high school. Time cannot be going this fast. I mean, seriously…just yesterday I am sure I was wiping his nose, tying his shoes and trying to get him to give up his pacifier.
