Kristen Daukas – Humor is the Best Approach
Welcome to the Hen House – my little corner of the world! I started blogging in 2004 long before
“mommy blogger” was a term – much less a way of life for millions of people. We were living outside of Philly and this site was my way to keep distant family and friends in touch with our lives. Honestly, with 3 daughters and a full-time job, the last thing I had time to do was run to Walgreen’s to make copies of pictures and Facebook wasn’t created yet.
Our family consists of three daughters aged 13, 15 and 18, a 12-year-old cat (Little E) who thinks he’s a dog, a 4-year-old dog (Josie) who is an escape artist and 2 kittens named Houdini and Jax Tucker. (I refer to them as Josie and the Pussycats!) Our house is a revolving door of bonus kids who love to stop by, visit and add to the laughter and chaos.
The girls are involved in golf, Girl Scouts, band, drama, and art. I am an avid consumer and brand ambassador, and I enjoy spreading the word about things I like and things that I don’t and ideas to fix them. Parenting the teens and tweens can be a daunting task and I think the best approach is with a healthy dose of humor. I may shoot off a rant here or there, but as Mackenzie’s Kindergarten teacher told us… you don’t believe half of what you hear and I won’t either.
We are currently located in Winston-Salem, NC which is almost smack dab in the middle of the beautiful state of NC. Raleigh is an hour or so to the east of me and Charlotte is just over an hour south. I frequently speak on topics such as social media, technology, parenting and women’s issues and was a top 5 finalist in the 2015 & 2012 Shorty Awards for “Parent in Social Media”. In 2011, I started the site Ten to Twenty Parenting which is a community site and information resource for parents of teens and tweens and the unique parenting challenges they’re facing.
When I’m not playing the role of events and scheduling coordinator for my family, I’m busy running a social media marketing agency and am very active in the community. I oversee the technology conference, ConvergeSouth, served two years as the President of Professional Women on Winston-Salem and am the co-founder of Linking Winston-Salem. One of my favorite personal/professional outlets is another group that I started called the Broads Who Tweet. We are a group of like-minded women in technology and social media who get together for fun and networking.

We worked with Kristen on a blogger review campaign. We were working with a client within a pretty unique category and whose product was only sold online. The product addressed specific skin conditions and the price point was much higher than comparable products, but it offered innovative technology their competitors would not have. We knew this was going to be a product sold by ‘word-of-mouth’ online and we reached out to Kristen to help us identify and recruit relevant bloggers with a great social media presence.
Kristen found a very qualified pool of bloggers who were affected either themselves or someone in the home with this condition. She vetted them and provided complete contact information in under a week, which was excellent turnaround time. She found us exactly who we were looking for and saved us several hours of online searching.
Our blogger review program was a great success and we saw an immediate uptick in sales within weeks. The bloggers posted thoughtful, candid reviews and had a broad influence of reach across all social media platforms. We would definitely work with Kristen again on a campaign!Debbie Fuchs
