Mayberry RFD

There’s a snowmageddon apparently coming tonight so yesterday, we decided to take advantage of the 65° weather and head out for an 80% family day. Since 20% of our group is in Vail, it couldn’t be a full family day.. it was hard to have fun, but we somehow managed. We loaded up our sad little selves and headed North to a town called Mount Airy: population 9,000. This little town we know as Mount Airy is known to the rest of the world as Mayberry. You remember Mayberry? It was the background star of the Andy Griffith Show which ran from 1960-1968 (but still lives in syndication today) The town that Sheriff Andy Taylor ran while his boy Opie ran around and his sweet Aunt Bea baked fresh apple pies? You’re Breaking My Heart

AKA Middle School Open House night for H#2. A bit of a Wordless Wednesday.. tonight was open house so that the newbie parent’s and upcoming 6th graders could visit the school. Since this is our 2nd time at the rodeo, I didn’t pay as much attention to the activities as I did to the fact that holy crap – I’m going to have TWO girls in middle school next year. Which was followed immediately by HOLY HELL this time next year, I’ll be going to open house for H#1 to go to high school. This glass of wine is mighty tasty. Back to Wordless Wednesday…. A Modern Day June Cleaver

Me? No, not me. That distinction is reserved for my Mother-in-Law who’s celebrating her birthday today. I’ve actually heard the horror stories of terrible MILs and I can’t even fathom that as a reality. I am so blessed to have a MIL like Grace. She is everything that I’m not and some things that I am which enables us to get along fabulously. I like to think that I’m the daughter she never had and she is more like a mom to me than a MIL. From the moment we met, we clicked and while I’m not saying we haven’t had our tiffs (usually my fault) I couldn’t ask for a better second mom to me and grandmother to my kids. Beyond the Birds and Bees – Teenage Pregnancy

Came across an article about Jamie Lynn Spears today that she did for Glamour magazine just ahead of her 21st birthday in April. Remember Jamie Lynn? She’s the cute little sister to the “other” famous Spears, Britney. My girls used to love Jamie Lynn’s show on Nickelodeon, Zoey 101. Truth be told, I didn’t mind watching it either. It was a cute show and I remember thinking that if she could keep it together, she may actually have a shot at making it post-Disney. The show was on the air from 2005-2008 ending only after Spears had announced to the world in 2007 that she was 16, pregnant and unwed. I remember the day that I heard the news vividly.. it was during the Christmas holidays of 2007 and my in-laws were visiting. Aunt Mary Goes On Strike

First of all, I need to say THANK YOU to whoever the 3 people were that voted to make this blog a finalist in the 2012 Mom’s Choice Award that Triad Moms on Main is holding. Actually I don’t know how many voted.. I just made that number up. I know I sound like Julia Roberts at the Oscars, but I really AM honored just to be nominated especially considering the other blogs that are finalists. The nomination made my day and was a kick ass way to start the  month.
